Coral Calcium Supreme is a type of calcium that’s been derived from coral reefs. There’s a lot of hype surrounding the use of this type of calcium for your health. This is partly because it’s been harvested from Okinawa, Japan which is an area that’s well-known for residents who have the longest life expectancy in the world. Some people say that this is because they take this calcium but so far there’s been no research to back this up.
Health Benefits
There have been several large health organizations that have published reports regarding this supplement. Unfortunately, there are equally as many companies who’ve made unsubstantiated claims stating that this type of calcium could serve as a cure for some serious types of diseases. All of this stems back to the early 2000s when Robert R. Barefoot started selling products (e.g. books, supplements) that he referred to as “coral calcium.” Barefoot was also the first person to link this calcium’s benefits to the health of the people who lived in Okinawa.
One of the best-known studies regarding this product is the Okinawa Centenarian Study in 2003. This study does show that people living in Okinawa do live for a very long time. It also shows that they have a low rate of heart disease and cancer. However, what this study doesn’t show is that it’s because these people are taking coral calcium – something that marketers such have Barefoot have claimed. In fact, this is something that’s been outright debunked by this study. Instead, the study says that these people live this long due to their healthy lifestyle.
The FTC has since taken legal action against any companies that promote coral calcium. In doing so they’ve managed to uphold a $48.5 million settlement. This is because the FTC backs the Okinawa Centenarian Study in saying that there isn’t any support for most of the health claims in regard to this supplement. They’ve even gone so far as to call these health claims “bogus.”
Conclusion
Over the years people have used coral calcium supplements to treat various conditions including cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and other chronic health issues. However, there’s only been limited research done in this regard. Therefore it’s too early to recommend taking Coral Calcium Supreme for any of these health conditions. If you still want to give it a try, you should make sure you talk to your doctor before doing so.
