Michigan Legal Services is Michigan’s largest nonprofit law firm. Our mission is to provide Michigan residents with the best legal representation possible in civil matters, many of which are related to family law and bankruptcy. We also offer other services such as mediation and community education programs so that Michigan residents can learn about their rights before they face a challenge alone.
1) What is your origin?
We were founded in 1971 and since then have been Michigan’s largest provider of civil legal aid to low-income residents. We serve over 100,000 Michigan families every year through our five office locations throughout the state.

Along with family law issues, we also offer a range of services related to bankruptcy.
In addition to these service offerings, we have mediation programs so people can learn about their rights before they face challenges alone while achieving our mission of helping those who are unable to help themselves with continuous support from members like you, along with positive outcomes from cases resolved by us. 3) What is your mission?
We work on several issues, including foreclosures, evictions, garnishments, and more related to debt collection. Our goal is for everyone that requests assistance through Legal Services.
4) What makes you unique
If you are a Michigan resident and unable to afford an attorney, we may be able to help. Our staff will meet with you for FREE to find the best solution based on your situation. We have been helping people from Michigan since 1965!
5) Who do you serve?
We provide legal services throughout Michigan, including Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee counties, and others in Southeast Michigan, such as Wayne County, which includes the City of Detroit and Oakland County. Suppose someone is going through foreclosure or eviction. In that case, it’s important not to wait because there could be a court deadline approaching soon after a missed filing date. Many times solving these issues together can eliminate additional costs associated with our service fees. Still, if necessary, we will file a lawsuit. We provide free legal advice to low-income clients about their rights and responsibilities when it comes to housing; employment, family benefits, public assistance, consumer debt education, civil litigation, probate issues, elder abuse protection from domestic violence, unemployment compensation workers’ comp fair housing and immigration matters which includes citizenship applications for immigrants who are here legally.
